Seventeen year old Kameron Ross is passionate about three things: he loves country music, he loves horses and he loves the Texas Aggies. Although he aspires to be a singer and songwriter, his first goal is to get a good education so he can become an Equine Veterinarian. He's heard all the horror stories from musicians who, despite being very talented, were never able to support themselves or their families with their music. So Kameron has decided that if he becomes a successful equine vet first, he will be able to afford to sing whenever he feels like it and he will also be able to afford season tickets to all the Aggie games. Kameron says, "I love country music and I love all the
great people I've met in this industry. I was about nine years old when I
first started seriously thinking about wanting to be a country music singer. I was at
the Houston livestock show and rodeo and saw Shania Twain perform. It was such
an awesome show and I realized
right then and there that I wanted to be up on a stage and sing and
make the crowd go wild like that. The next year I tried out for the Houston Boys Choir and made it. At the age of
thirteen I started singing
more for friends and at family parties. The more I sang, the more I enjoyed
it." Since then, Kameron has been singing as much as possible around town at schools, festivals and fairs and just recently started taking guitar lessons to help him with his songwriting. His list of musical heroes is a rather long and diverse and includes, alphabetically, nearly everyone from Gary Allan to Clay Walker. Although he says he is most comfortable covering Tracy Byrd songs, "Tough Little Boys" by Gary Allan was the very first song he ever sang in public and even though he is taking French in school, he says he likes to listen to Rick Trevino and Freddy Fender because they both sing in English and Spanish; something he would also like to be able to do. Kameron says that he is very grateful to many
people who have helped him along the way; the neighbor who held a yard
sale to help raise money for his very first demo CD, all of the folks who
come out to see him at local venues and events and all of the new friends
who stop by on his
MySpace and leave comments to show their support.
In October of last year Kameron made his first trip to Nashville to lay down
the initial tracks for his upcoming, debut album. The overseer on this
project was none other than the legendary In December Kameron began writing with singer/songwriter, Carl Ray, who is also producing the final cuts on the debut album. Together they have written two of the tracks including the title cut, When I'm Done Loving You. The album is scheduled to be released this summer; just in time to coincide with Kameron's first trip to Music City for the CMA Fest. |
